Multiple Fires Break Out in Bay Area, Smoke Chokes the Air



In spite of red flag warnings around 1pm, a wildfire dubbed, the Park Fire sparked just off Monterey Road and Coyote Creek Golf Drive, in South San Jose. The 63-acre brush fire is racing through dry grass resulting in the temporary closure of 101 in both directions.

Meanwhile in Solano County fire crews were already battling another fast moving brush fire that broke out around 11am and scorched hundreds of acres of land. Surprisingly, despite being 100 miles away, this fire filed the bay area skies with thick smoke, reducing visibility in some areas down to as little as a quarter mile. The fire which started near Travis Airforce Base and was fueled by high winds and acres of dry grass. The smoke from the fire obscured visibility for miles and reached as far south as Santa Cruz.
