Climate Smart Champion Awards 2024

Hey San José,

Just a friendly reminder that nominations for the 2024 Climate Smart Champion Awards are still open until March 16, 2024. Do you know of an individual, group, or organization who advocates for climate action or is involved in making San José more environmentally friendly? If so, we encourage you to nominate them for the 2024 Climate Smart Champion Awards.

The 5th annual Climate Smart Champion Awards will recognize outstanding efforts by individuals, groups and organizations in 2023 that aligned with the goals of Climate Smart San José and contributed to a more sustainable city. Anyone can nominate an individual, group, or organization using this form.

The following categories will be recognized this year:

  • Climate Champion of the Year: This category recognizes an individual, group and/or organization who has aggressively tackled climate change, but also exemplifies extraordinary leadership within San José with their response to climate change and engagement of their peers and partners.

  • Mobility Champion: This category recognizes an individual, group and/or organization who has shown leadership and vision in reducing transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions in San José and serving as a champion of sustainable transportation.

  • Energy Champion: This category recognizes an individual, group and/or organization who has demonstrated leadership in clean energy, electrification, or energy efficiency through the implementation and/or promotion of emission reduction programs in San José.

  • Water Conservation Champion: This category recognizes an individual, group and/or organization who has demonstrated outstanding leadership for the implementation, planning or promotion of innovative water conservation efforts in San José and engagement of their peers and partners.

  • Youth Climate Champion: This category recognizes San José youth or youths age 18 or younger for outstanding leadership in climate change, and building awareness and engagement of their peers, school, and/or community in San José.

  • Climate Smart Equity Champion: This category recognizes an individual, group and/or organization who has demonstrated leadership in climate justice by ensuring equitable access to mitigation and adaptation resources in historically disadvantaged communities.

The nomination form will close on March 16th so get your nominations in and share with your networks before then.

Nominations will be reviewed and chosen by our Climate Smart Champion Review Committee and announced on March 22nd. There will be a celebration in April to recognize these individuals for the great work. Champions will also receive a commendation from San José City Council. After winners are selected, additional details will be sent via email.
