From domes to homes: Santana Row's western addition takes shape in Federal Realty's new plan

A 14-story office tower and nearly 1,000 apartments are envisioned for the old Winchester theaters site across from Santana Row.

And yes, the plans call for saving one of the theater domes — though it's unclear how the mid-century building, a subject of a vocal preservation movement earlier this year, will be used.

Federal Realty Investment Trust this week turned in conceptual plans to the city, giving the first public glimpse at one of the highest-profile development projects in all of the South Bay. The submission is part of a rezoning process that only just got under way, nine months after Federal leased the land.
