San Jose was officially founded as California's first civilian settlement on November 29, 1777.


Happy 244th Birthday San Jose.


In 1791 due to severe flooding, the City Center moved 1 mile south from its site on the Guadalupe River to its present site at Plaza de Cesar Chavez.
