San Jose approves new Chick-fil-A on westside of town, but with conditions

San José officials have approved a controversial Chick-fil-A at the corner of West San Carlos and Race Streets—but with conditions. The permit blocks the drive-thru and denies demolition of the existing building, offering a partial win for local residents who opposed the project.

Community members argued the development contradicts the city’s urban village plan and would displace a beloved family-owned business. Chick-fil-A has until June 23 to appeal the decision, possibly reigniting the fight.
