Senior care building, condos pitched for Burbank 'urban island' in San Jose

The head of a San Jose-based association of real estate investors is looking to demolish a row of storefronts along West San Carlos Street in San Jose and construct a senior care building and a condo building in their place.

Project address: Seven parcels with addresses ranging from 1881-1899 West San Carlos St. and 13-17 Boston Ave. The site is currently home to a building with five attached retail storefronts and an adjacent audio equipment store that front West San Carlos Street, and a small commercial structure and two surface parking lots behind them. All of the parcels are owned by the Los Gatos-based Dorsa Family Trust, according to the project's plan set dated June 4. The existing buildings on the 1.23-acre site would be demolished under the project plans.

Project description: A development comprised of two buildings, one of which is six stories and includes 61 condo units while the other is five stories and includes 157 beds for seniors. Project plans show a courtyard located between the two structures. The senior care building, if approved and completed, would include 151 assisted living and memory care rooms for seniors. The condo building, if approved and completed, would include 13 two-bedroom townhome units on its sixth floor and 6,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

The senior care building would also have 63 parking spaces for seniors and employees on the ground floor towards the back of the property and on one underground level. For the condo building, 131 parking spaces would be provided in its basement.
