Every year, San José bursts into joyful motion with Viva CalleSJ, a free Open Streets event that temporarily closes off city streets to cars and opens them up to people. Whether you’re walking, biking, skating—or just enjoying the energy of the moment—Viva CalleSJ invites you to explore your city in a brand-new way. In 2025, the event celebrats its tenth anniversary, drawing well over 100,000 participants along a six-mile route that winds through vibrant neighborhoods like Willow Glen, the Rose Garden, San Carlos, Little Italy, Japantown, and Watson Park Viva Calle San JoseMineta Transportation Institute.
Guests can soak in the sights at their own pace—Viva CalleSJ is not a race. The route’s activity hubs are buzzing with live entertainment, food vendors, and activities for all ages, making it a family-friendly celebration of local culture
